  On a side note I have been reading a lot about fundamentalist Islam and Wahhabism.

  Wahhabism is an excellent subject to study. I would also recommend researching it's Christian alter ego "Theonomy" informally known as "Reconstructionism". Theonomists want a Christian Theocracy based on ALL Old Testament civil laws as well as their form of capital punishment (stoning and burning at the stake). Even though there are probably no more than a few hundreds of thousands in the U.S. they are deeply connected to the right wing movement and Republican party.

  They are also the main influence on the homeschooling movement amongst conservative parents and they have the express purpose of indoctrinating their children into a full Theonomic view of life, not the more 'liberal' Christian Nationalism that tens of millions of Americans currently espouse.

  i popped into the supermarket for a few things after work today and found myself walking up an aisle alongside a couple who used to be in my tuesday group.

  i see them reasonably often and always say hello much to their obvious annoyance.

  i noticed that ian was sporting a shaggy beard.

  Some people are freaked out by that kind of thing. When I was a child I got a gift from my godfather that was a small medical model of a skeleton (He was a doctor). I didn't want to throw it away but I was so spooked that I turned it around so that it wouldn't be facing me. That was before I had anything to do with the Witnesses.

  Perry, are you getting friendly with Theistic Evolutionists? I thought they were going to hell for believing that Adam and Eve swung on trees.

  In either case this is my favorite book on the subject of evolution versus creationism. 500 pages of detailed rebuttal after rebuttal on every talking point that Creationists have come up with.

  Getting the Urge!

  evening folks, so as some of you may know we have recently decided to leave the witnesses and can see it for the man made organisation it is.

  so, why do i get the urge to go back and feel guilty for not being there!

  it's like my mind is telling me to be logical about it all but then something keeps pulling me back.. don't get me wrong i really want to break free from it all and i'm resisting the urge to go back as i have been miserable in the truth for a long time as i've known it's not right and want to do the best by my daughter.

  My advise is to read the "apostate" literature such as Raymond Franz Crisis of Conscience and In Search of Christian Freedom (available free in PDF). After doing that you'll likely have less and less desire to go back.

  having just come back from the uk and spoke with some witnesses to find out how my old congregation is doing, i realized i am now the age that my elders were when i was a kid.

  and i wonder what the elders who are now in their 60s and 70s are thinking when they look in the mirror and an old face looks back at them.

  many of the elders in my old hall are now retired.
